I happen to enjoy Frank's comments for the most part.  They tell more about
the man than the photos, but perhaps that's just how I read them. 
Regardless, for posting here, it's not a bad idea for certain types of
photos to be explained since it allows us to see how close they came to
their intention.  For a gallery, or another venue, maybe so many words are
neither needed nor desired.  In this case Frank's words make a nice,
enjoyable preamble to the photos, sort of reminding us what went before and
how some things came to be.  They don't help make the photos any better,
nor do they detract from them, but they do give us a sense of the man who
took them.

I don't see Frank's comments any less valuable than, for example, all the
technical details that introduce the photos of others, and they are far
more interesting.
