Thank you Fred, for a calm, rational response to an honest appreciative post.

Poor Michel posted his honest feelings, sharing with those whom he thought were friends, and got shot down for his efforts.
To say to him, "Who are you calling an American" was in and of itself woefully ill-mannered and crass.

As is sometimes obvious, it's not always "those brash Americans" who speak with insensitivity and inelegant language, is it...

No surprise.
Bravo,

While the result is no real surprise, posting spoiler information
like this to a non-sports-related forum is extremely ill-mannered.

Michel:

As an American, I want you to know that I did appreciate your
message to the PDML.

Yes, it ~was~ off-topic without having been labeled as such.

Yes, it ~did~ give away the results of the race right in the subject
line (yes, making it impossible to avoid reading the results by not
opening the email message).

However, your message was a simple, honest expression of admiration
for an American - a human - of which we all (American, French, or
whatever) can be proud.

Thanks,

Fred
