OK, I'll check which one it is, then... The close-up capability sounds quite interesting, as I've also considered a close-up lens or one of those tube things...I also saw a used Vivitar 2X teleconverter today. Apart from the conventional wisdom about teleconverters in general, can anyone tell me anything about it?
Hi, Toralf.
I'm familiar with two models of Vivitar 2X TC's:
The 4-element model (labeled something such as "2X-22") is not particularly good. (Actually, if not used with the right lens, and if not stopped down quite a bit, it's awful.)
The 7-element Macro-Focusing 2X TC, on the other hand, is quite good, similar in its results to the Pentax T6-2X and A 2X-S TC's, and it is quite versatile, too, with its helicoidal focusing mechanism for macro (or, at lest, closer focusing) work with regular lenses.
I'd avoid the former but I'd recommend the latter.
I used the macro converter for macro photography, together with a 50 1.4, for years. It works great for that purpose.
I had a closer look at this teleconverter today, and unfortunately it turned out to be the other variant - or at least it had nothing about "macro" on the box, and didn't look like it had as much as 7 elements - so I didn't buy it. Maybe the offer was still reasonable, though; it was only demo-used, and price was NOK 395,-

Thats too bad, I sold my K-version of the macro converter for NOK 500 a couple of months ago...
