It's going to become more difficult for any dcamera manufacturer to succeed
without the facility to produce a sensor. Or to at least have a serious fiscal
investment in a strategic partner. New technologies (progressively larger
sensors) are expensive and the manufacturers would welcome any way to guarantee
immediate sales and lowered initial production capital requirements.

For Pentax to partner with someone to produce a custom or new model sensor to
these specs, for the reasons given above, is not inconceivable. In fact it
would be a very wise move. I hope it's true.

Any larger sensor will be a good thing. Eight MP will get us to a great image
quality. And given the sensor trend of working toward larger sizes, then
the increase in lens coverage would be a matching and critical scenario.
It would mean that Pentax users could use older or newer (digitally-optimized)
lenses whereas Nikon & Canon users might well be stuck with two different
versions of "digital" lenses in the very near future. They might well end
up where Minolta is at. :)
