The photo industry grapevine says that Nikon, Pentax and Konica-Minolta (meaning basically everyone besides Canon) are all working on precisely this. Basically, everyone needs to move to CMOS because of manufacturing capacity and because of costs: CMOS sensors are less expensive to produce than CCD's and the equipment required to make them isn't nearly as specialized. The word is that all the (non-Canon) manufacturers feel they're behind the 8-ball with respect to Canon because of this and catching up is a very high priority. -- Mark Roberts Photography and writing www.robertstech.com
