Paul Stregevsky discovers: >I couldn't wait to attach my new Carl Zeiss Jena MC (multicoated) Flektogon >20/2.8K to my Super Program and finally see what I've been missing: > >The SMC 24 is said to have a field of view of 84 degrees. I expected my >20mm to have a FOV of 94 degrees, or 12% wider. > >Well, something is wrong. The Zeiss's field of view (FOV) appears to be >only about 7 or 8 percent wider than that of my 24. > I've felt that Pentax is generally conservative (or accurate?) in their specifications. There are exceptions; some flash sync speed ratings may be overly optimistic, but conservative specs overall. Perhaps Pentax specs their wide angles at minimum focus distance while the Zeiss lens was specified at infinity focus? Even that would account for little; maybe a couple of degrees difference.
