 Hi Shel,
I'll have a go at it. It's sick that anyone would think the photos are
worth $50,000, although, thus far, it's apparent that no one does. I've
seen beautiful photos of Winston Cup race cars moving at incredible
speed, with a faint haze of smoke pouring off the tires as the tail of
the car moves out just a little bit increasing the angle of attack. I've
seen great head-on shots of CART open-wheel race cars moving toward the
apex, with the driver's eyes locked on the mark he has to hit at triple
digit speed. And I've seen great "disaster" photos as well: The
supercharger of a top-fuel drag car exploding at 300 mph, and the
accompanying ball of fire chasing the driver through the traps. Those
photos all sold for $500 or less. The Earnhardt photos are allegedly
worth $50,000. But the only reason anyone thinks they can get that much
is because someone of great stature died. It wasn't a great moment, it
wasn't a spectacular crash, they aren't great photos. They're just an
indication of how sick we sometimes are.
