Last week my wife and I spent a few days in Ottawa and Hull (Hull is
just across the Ottawa river in Quebec). I took along my MZ-7 &
FA 2-90mm, together with my 1927 Zeiss-Ikon Cocarette and my 1937
Rolleicord II.

I've loaded up some images to my webpage. If you'd like to see
them please go to http://ist.uwaterloo.ca/~fwwidall/Ottawa/
As always comments are most welcome.

I was disappointed to find that the Library of Parliament is undergoing
renovation, and instead of being a beautiful gothic building it is
now covered by a huge tent. I was also disappointed that statute of
the indian scout has been moved from the base of the Champlain statue
on Nepean point to a local park. I took along a 24mm lens to capture
the scout with Parliament Hill in the backgroud - ah well. The
statue was apparently moved back in 1999 in a spirit of 'political
correctness'. I hope he's happy in his new location, although instead
of a beautiful view of Parliament Hill he's now surrounded by
drug dealers in the park.

I also intended to try a flight in a biplane at the aircraft museum but
discovered that the biplane only flies on weekends, and their
Tiger Moth was in the shop.

Another disappointment was the Canadian Museum of Contemporary
Photography. The current exhibition is 'John Massey: The House That Jack
Built'. Not my cup of tea unfortunately.

On the plus side We did visit the 'Diefenbunker'. A four story, 100,000
square feet, underground bunker constructed during the height of the cold
war to protect the Prime Minister and other essential personnel
in the case of nuclear attack. I did notice that a spot was
reserved for the Minister of Immigration and Tourism - an
obviously essential person for the future of a devastated Canada.
Sadly no photography was permitted so I can't share any images.
Worth a visit if you're ever in the area.
