The main reason it got cancelled was that no one thought it could
compete with the American F-111, with which it shared roughly the same
intended role(s). Of course, the F-111 ended up experiencing delay after
delay and reaching deployment many years late, a window which the TSR2
could have exploited (both in the RAF and for profitable overseas sales)
if it had been built. 20-20 hindsight and all that...
