I think it's the wrong camera for a hotshoe. It's meant to be compact,
and the external flash would be bigger than the camera. What Pentax
needs is an EVF camera like the Nikon 8700 which is not a DSLR but has
all the fixin's. For many folks (maybe even some of us on the list) a
high end EWVF camera is a better choice than a DSLR.

The SONY DSC F717 and Canon G5 is perhaps not exactly compact(?), but
they
are still affordable consumer/enthusiast cameras - and both have a wide
zoom
range, a flash shoe and a f2.0 lens.

Even the small and compact Ricoh Caplio GX (300 USD) has a flash shoe
and a
f2.5 lens - not to mention 64-1600 ASA (dpreview says 64-800 ASA):

No enthusiast (certainly not me) would want a camera without a flash
shoe or
at least a PC connection:

A compact camera with a 5x zoom, and you want it to be
f2.0?

Okay...
