The best way is with a tool designed for the task, I believe Micro-Tools has
them.
However........

The way I do it most of the time is to:
1.) Lay the lens on a block of soft wood with the dent straight down and the
filter ring well supported.
2.) Use a short piece of 1/4" dowel rod as a "punch" and gently tap the dent
out.
The soft wood will give as you tap, yet it supports the lens well enough to
prevent the shock from
endangering the rest of the lens.
Take your time, it only takes a few taps to get the job done.

Don't try to force a filter on, it will jam itself and be the devil to
remove.
Using pliers usually ruins the filter ring for good.
These last two are the voice of experience speaking. :-(

BTW: Congrats on the nice <jealousy> BLACK </jealousy> MX!
Good price if you can sell the 50/2.8.
