i wasn't first, but i was among the earliest on the list to buy a 4G Microdrive for the *istD. during the vacation, i shot about 100 exposures on a busy day. there weren't a lot of opportunities for shooting panoramas or the number would have been about double that. the drawback with a Microdrive is that it draws on average about twice as much power as a solid state card. 100 exposures are well within the capabilities of a single set of high capacity NiMH batteries though. at least on the *istD, the Microdrive has about the same write speed as a fast solid state card. i didn't run into enough situations where i could do some bird photography, so i didn't run into the frame rate limitations of the camera.
