That's good news for those who would want to set up a digital darkroom. Fast drives are a big key to making PhotoShop work well. The computer investment for a digital darkroom isn't that huge, and most people can get by with whatever box they're currently using.

In terms of a computer, I use a fairly high power setup most of the time,
but I can also work with a very slow i-book G3 when I have to. That's the
machine I take on locations. I'm not dialed into PCs, but I would guess
that any 1 gigahertz or faster Pentium 3 would be powerful enough to get
one working productively. On the Mac side, you could probably get by with
a 500 megahertz G4.
Paul, my Photoshop workstation is a G3 450 with 1GB of RAM and a couple
of hard drives inside (including true-to-form Cottymodding in the form of
custom built shelves to stack them on).
I have no problems at all with speed, it's fine. I bought it used a couple of years ago for 400 GBP.
Cheers, Cotty
