The reason is simple. Nobody is going to engineer a digital solution to a company who is developing their own solutions in house, much better integrated and most likely to half the price.
Working digital backs for the Pentax 645 was showed at the last Photokina and I've spoke to people who tried it. It was shown to Pentax officials and the organization behind closed doors and Pentax got an offer which they have not said yes to.
I really doubt that digital solution for MF cameras are like, say, third party lenses. My guess is that these third party companies need technical, financial and marketing support for being willing to commit themselves.
