Another thought to consider...I always thought that red dot made me more of
a target for snatching the camera when I was inattentive! There ARE some
vultures out there! I'm not always in the wilderness, taking nature shots.
There are all kinds of vultures!

Black cameras with the bright work gaffer taped over started out with
photojournalists in war zones. They had a pretty good reason for doing
it. With most others it is nothing but pretentiousness. Think of it
though, it is even better to pretend not to be pretentious. (Chrome
camera in a war zone, anybody?)
