I agree with Cotty on this one. As an ad guy I have to point out that advertising that's free for the company is free to the consumer as well. Advertising that the manufacturer pays for adds to the cost of a product. And since you can't sell anything without advertising it, free advertising is good for all. Most logs are designed to be attractive. I think the Pentax logo makes the *istD more attractive. It's nice typography, and it breaks up the black. The Fender logo is quite beautiful.

Well said, Frank .... and it should be pointed out that many photogs other
than Leica users tape their cameras. Check out Nachtwey's Canon gear the
next time you watch "War Photographer." Anyway, why should it be an issue
for anyone how someone else chooses to "decorate" their camera. It seems
that a particular list member's reptile-skinned LX meets with approval
here, but tape over some logos is called pretentious and seems to be looked
down upon. It's all such bullshit, and so irrelevant.

I've posted photos of my friend Jennifer, the singer. Her guitarist, Bill, tapes over the logos of all his guitars and amplifiers (and he has many lovely guitars on stage with him). I asked him why, and he said, "Gibson, Fender and the others don't pay me to play their guitars. Were I in a hugely successful rock band, they might give me free guitars and maybe even pay me promotional fees for using their guitars as it's great publicity for them. But, since they don't pay me to use their product, I refuse to give them free publicity.

I'm sorry guys but to me this is just being bitter and twisted. Life's too short to worry about things like this....

Best,

Cheers, Cotty
