There are no (verifiable) reliable rumors about new lens series. Rumors about a new
FA*II ultrasonic lenses has surfaced in Japan on mailing lists but their reliability
is uknown. The lens mentioned was said to be for 35mm but was obviously a standard
lens for the 645 system.
What is certain though is that Pentax have a number of new cameras, lenses and
acessories in the works. This equipment is for Japan production and therefore not
cheap stuff. A new lens series is of course possible but pure speculation at this
stage. Whats certain though is that these products are not that far away since they
are apparently tooling up for them now.
Of course the FA* lenses may be due for replacement; most of them at least. They are
after all 10 years old and may reach the end of their planned life cycle. If Pentax
plan to release ultrasonic lenses the FA* are the most obvious candidates. Release
schedule is obviously dependend on a platform for them something that means several
bodies, some of them most likely high volume.
I would like to stress that this is pure speculation. However, Pentax is planning more
upper level products.
