Nikon's system is more interesting, since you need specific lens series' to get metering, or even operation in some cases. I don't think you can mount any non AI lens (thats Nikons equivalent to pre A series) on their modern cameras (F5 excepted), and I think (though I am kind of guessing) that you need one of the computer chipped lenses for DSLR use.
