That's about what I was able to achieve, I think that you could do better with an original scan not resized for the web.

Hi Frank,

Since your post fits in, I take the opportunity to revive the WOW (Workshop of

Hope you don't mind.

Subject: OT: Photoshop Thoughts and a Question for you Experts

Well, as I told you all a few weeks ago, I finally got around to
installing Photoshop (version 6.0) a couple of weeks ago.

Here's an example of a fairly notorious shot of mine (at least
notorious to me - one of my faves). Old scan:

Great shot, Frank!

New scan:

So, here's a question: When I first posted this one, someone (maybe
Bruce Dayton? I can't remember) said that he suspected that there
were some highlights in the dark hair of Lucie on the left. There
were indeed some highlights on the print, and I think they've come out
a bit better on the ps version. If I wanted to bring those up a bit
more, how would I do it? Any suggestions? Everything I've tried has
looked pretty bad. Or, should I just leave it?

I uploaded a version where I simply pulled out some light of Lucie's hair for you.

I don't know if you already got similar results and discarded it as "pretty bad", however I just wanted to show what can be found in the dark if you use some PS tools, in case you haven't found out yet.
Note: I do not regard my version as any improvement of the original, I just want to show Frank what quickly and easily can be pulled out of the shadows. This was simply using the "curves" tool, pulling the string at a few selected points.
(I happened to use the old scan.)

I'm having so much fun with this!!

If you are just starting using PS you are in for a real treat. You may end up sitting for days in fascination about what can be done to just one single picture.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks, Lasse

I can understand why mankind hasn't given up war. During a war you get to drive tanks through the sides of buildings and shoot foreigners - two things that are usually frowned on during peacetime.
