It can be either the neopagan equivalent of a wedding, sometimes with civil
sanction sometimes not. Can also be a ritual betrothal - depends on the
folks involved. No, I am not a neopagan myself.

I've hears stories of full moons at such events, though.
What is a "hand fasting"?

I ALWAYS get 4x6 prints to use as proofs. I then select the ones I want,
usually about 10 out of a 36 exposure roll (of which only about 2 or 3 are
worth a damn). These I mark for cropping with a fine tip Sharpie using
standard, adjustable cropping guide and turn them back in for the desired
enlargement.
FYI, for weddings, my yield is larger, 10 to 18 usable per role, due to
the
formula type nature of the work. It's never over 18 due to a minimum of
two
snaps per. For some reason, the local neopagans in the area want me to
photograph their weddings and hand fastings. It's fun because they know
how
to have fun. Thank God non of these have involved nekkidness - so far.
