This is one where I think I would have clicked off a frame or two even if I had not read the sign because of the quality of light. IT is a very early photo of mine. I included it in this month's PUG partly because, as usual, the one I thought of immediately was not at hand as an 8 x 10 and I was too involved in other stuff to dig through my files to find it and I knoew I could put my hands on the one from the book. However the sign clearly didn't come across on line - no one seem to have read the entire sign - possibly because it comes out so tiny on the screen. My bad. But before October passes, I'll just tell you what it says: "MENS ROOM - life preservers will be found under seats" (Then, of course, some people might have seen it but didn't go for my style of humor.) Some of my sign shots happened because there was an odd juxtaposition of a sign with another sign or signs, or with something else going on in the scene. Others are a comment on how the sign makers were not paying attention, as is this one :) The trouble is I'm so well known in a small circle that stetches only slightly beyond my friends, that when I've photographed something in which any sign appears at all they assume I was making a joke. On the other hand, when I've showed stuff where I was clearly doing visual comedy (well, clear to me, anyway) I've watched gallery visitors mutter about the nice tones and quality of the prints or the beautiful scene - and never crack a smile. I felt less disappointed about this after seeing an Erwitt show where the same thing happened. anyway, glad you liked the shot, Dave. annsan sleepily rambling on a Sunday morning.
