Hello Tom, I said the same thing until I got a DSLR (*istD). There is a very distinct price/weight advantage on the ultra wide end to having a smaller lens. BTW, Pentax has only made two APS only lenses for sale so far - both of them very wide: DA 14/2.8 and DA 16-45/4 and soon to be a third, also very wide 18-55. The advantage on the wide end is easily seen. On top of that, it may be the only supplemental lens that you would buy for your APS sized sensor. IOW, you probably wouldn't be buying a 14mm lens for your full frame cameras anyway - it is just to satisfy the wide end of the APS size sensor. So you are basically talking about the purchase of one lens in your whole kit.
Here is the difference between a Nikkor 14/2.8 full frame and the Pentax DA 14/2.8: Nikon street price: $1399.00 weight: 23.6 oz size: 3.8 X 3.4 Pentax Street price: $700.00 weight: 14.8 oz size: 3.3 X 2.7 On top of the obvious size/price difference I have heard in my readings on the web, that all the FF 14's are pretty mediocre in performance. So for significantly less money, you are getting something smaller, lighter and arguably better optical quality. After image quality of the latest and beyond APS sized sensors is shown (Canon at 8mp and Nikon at 12mp) I think the aps sized sensor will be around for quite some time because of the cost of FF sensors. They will always be more. Certainly worth the price of one specialty lens. -- Best regards, Bruce Wednesday, October 27, 2004, 1:54:30 PM, you wrote: TC> I wasn't the original poster but I still hold to what I said.
