[In my best George W voice]: Fairy, I truly am sorry you were offended by my
joke.

Seriously, Tanya, you are right about one thing, this isn't a pub (though
the blood alcohol content of some posters might lead one to think that), but
at the same time this is also not a monastery. And certainly I hope you
don't think my comment was directed at you personally or as any general
attack on females. I think Treena caught the gist of my words perfectly the
first time she read it.

It is you, not "we", who is talking about tact and consideration on this
thread. I started this thread as a defense of not needing to care much
about tact and consideration with PUG comments. After having read other's
viewpoints on it, I still hold the same opinion. Certainly some folks are
more graceful with criticism than others, but that shouldn't mean the blunt
person's thoughts are no less valid than yours, their character no more a
target of attack than yours, and their right to speak openly and freely no
more impugnable than yours.

I am probably as far as a man can be from being a disgusting pig. This is
most offensive character attack I have ever experienced here. And it was
uncalled for.

My point (which I often try to make through humor, exaggeration, and
questions) is that all the "nicey nice" PUG commentaries are not very useful
and a waste of time, at a minimum, and dangerous at its worst. You
obviously don't see that my opinion on this is directly opposite yours.
There is a time to be nice - like telling your boss and his wife that their
baby is cute, when in reality it is the ugliest 3 month old you have ever
seen. There are also appropriate times to relate the truth - such as
telling your mentally handicapped son that he probably will never be rocket
scientist, though he talks and dreams of it daily.

Don't you think that even a few people on PDML that are posting PUG photos
are privately hoping that people will really like their work, and give them
the courage and feedback to possibly pursue a career in this field so they
can quit their boring day jobs? If that was you privately hoping, would you
want to be unknowingly misled by someone else, who in their attempt to be
properly tactful and considerate with PUG comments, hides the fact that you
ain't that good yet?

I feel PUG commentaries should be on the truthful and honest side, and if a
lot of tact is not present, that is just a side issue to the real issue of
maintaining "honesty when it counts".

Cheers,
Gerald
