Lithium-manganese dioxide cells (3v non-rechargable) have a really steep 
discharge curve at EOL. I use them in my LX and Leicas and once the LX meter 
starts flashing I know I'll only get a minute or two more life. I always keep 
spares in my photo-pack, the advantage being that you know they'll still be OK 
for 10 years or so.
