most of my panoramas include an object within 5ft of the front of the lens. i mostly use the 16-45 but sometimes i use the 12-24. with both, i shoot panoramas only at the widest zoom. in either case, i've found that the nodal point didn't matter much so long as i was within a centimeter or two. getting the focal length right in the software was far more important. a few tenths of a mm difference in focal length made a big difference.
