I didn't make myself clear. What I should have said is, "If one were to physically remove the hot shoe, what would one do on those rare occasions when it is needed?" In any case, thanks to alerting me to the presence of the pocket. I never noticed it. (I didn't really throw my hot shoe cover away. It's laying on a corner of my dresser. Saw it this morning :-)

Put it in the pocket on the Pentax strap, like the finder cover and the wireless remote. That's about the only reason that the "factory" strap is still on my MZ-S. I haven't found an aftermarket strap with those pockets.
