Thanks Alin, I was sitting her after I sent the original e-mail and seeing what was different about this lens. Took awhile but I finally realised it's the plastic mount. The poor D doesn't even know it has a lens. Same effect if I put tape over the mount on an FA lens. I sent another post to say I figured it out but it's not there yet.
