Dees the in focus confirmation have anythiong to do with the lens mount? I
believe it's the projected image into the SAFOX system. If it's not sharp,
you'll get no confirmation. Why the *ist D can be fired anyway, I don't
know...

Sounds as if this lens has an anodized surface on its mount or something
else is preventing any of the electrical contacts on the camera from
detecting the presence of the lens.
