the *istD just 'feels' better in hand, even the proud D70 owner said so.
I held the D70 and had a play for a little while... In my hands it felt better than the *istD (deeper grippy bit), but not on par with the *ist D with grip attached.
The viewfinder seemed not too bad to me, but I didn't really compare and maybe attributed the darkness to the lens.
I used the nikkor 55/2.8 macro for a little while for some macro and found the viewfinder rather hard to use. Call it psychosomatic, but I didn't like that finder one bit. On a related note, I peered down one of Rob's LXen a couple of days ago. Wooooooooooo. (-:
