[pentax photo lab]
it is a really badly written application , that's
undeniable.

Yup! Too small preview, no zoom, little influence on the conversion process, topmost window.

Running at 1600x1200 the plab window didn't occupy that much space. It was
not really annoying to have it on top (well, would I use PEF more often it
would annoy me enough to get a tool to untop topmost windows. Or I would
just move it out of the screen before starting the conversion)

I run a 22" monitor at a high resolution and it still annoys me,

Just curiosity: what is 'high resolution'?

I shoot RAW
exclusively and I really have no time for the Pentax convertor, it is really
only a toy so that Pentax DSLR buyers have at least one method to convert their
RAW images if they decide to try it out. Anyone else who is serious about
shooting RAW will invest in an alternate RAW convertor.

I'm thinking about moving to RAW. I'll wait a few more days for Photo Lab 2.0 to arrive just not to be annoyed about spending a lot of money if it surprisingly turns out to be good, but after that I'll probably look for some other raw converter. Right now Capture One and PS CS jump to my mind, what do you use for conversion? ('having no time' for the pentax one sounds like C1?)
