Sometimes what appeared to be new might have been worked with before. Consider it is a pretty simple lens mechanically, having the whole thing recondition is not difficult, and worth it if you know how, or could have it done cheaply. You can even choose different grade of damping grease to obtain the "feel" you like. :-)

Yesterday, at a camera show, I got an A 50/1.4 that obviously had never been taken out to work. It has no internal dust of course, but its focusing ring is surprisingly feeling bad, too easy to turn and lumpy, as if it had too little or too dry grease. Anybody experienced this with an A lens? I've never seen such a thing with M lenses or older lenses.
