You probably won't go too far wrong with that lens. An alternative is the
Sigma 70-300 DL or APO Super. Any of them should do the trick. I've owned
the Sigma 70-300 DL and used the 80-320 and had good results from both.

I'm trying desperately to think what happens when I whack an M series lens
on my MZ-3. Unfortunately, my brain refuses to acknowledge my existance
this morning, so I have no idea. Does the meter and shutter speed change
when you select different apertures? If it does, then I wouldn't worry too
much.
