Just a quick note which may or may not be relevant to the thread, Canon
released a firmware update (1.1.0) for the 20D which corrected horizontal
banding at high ISOs with the use of the internal flash. There have been
several reports of users noticing the banding in certain shots without the
internal flash (search dpreview forums>20D>"banding"), and I haven't noticed
if anyone's noticed if the firmware upgrade has solved the problem of
horizontal banding at say 3200 in an indoor, low light situation (outdoor
bright shots tend to be reasonably safe from such problems- one poster
commented on how in could be the way in which the DIGICII processor deals
better with the blue end of the spectrum IIRC).

Basically, what I'm trying to say is yes it's a sensor issue (it can't not
be), but with the potential to be addressed in a firmware upgrade. With so
much riding on the ist Ds for Pentax- grabbing back market share etc- I
suspect that the appropriate bugfix isn't too far away.

Cheers,
Ryan
