No, I don't think so either. Or, it would at least have to some kind of setup where the same camera could use B&W *and* colour sensors. But I guess the situation might be somewhat different in a few years' time when (I'm assuming) the price of a DSLR has dropped to a fraction of what it is today.

The fractional price of a DSLR is never going to be at the same level as an entry level film SLR, there is just too much low volume tech in there. I doubt

P&S digicams will ever rise above the sensors sizes their designer have come to adopt with vigour so APS sensors will remain relative niche products.

I wouldn't bet on that, though. If there's one thing the development of digital technology has taught us, it is that, well, it *develops*.

Unfortunately user changeable sensors isn't going to happen any day soon either.

No, I don't think so, either. Actually, it doesn't seem like much of challenge from a technological view-point, but what's in it for the camera producers? Much better for them to sell people a new camera every time they want an upgraded sensor, of course. And the "film" companies don't seem interested in anything like this, either; I think if I were in charge "film" companies, I'd try to push *something* that might allow me to sell equipment to consumers again. However, I guess it still could make sense for one camera vendor to go in this direction at some point in order to position themselves in the market.

OTOH, *maybe* there could be niche markets that would justify the development of such a camera, at least if it may be done at a low cost via updates of existing models, even though the demand wouldn't be very high. I've been wondering why for instance the press doesn't want B&W cameras (or maybe they really do?). But perhaps the newspaper prints have such low quality anyway that using somewhat sub-optimal image data doesn't make a difference, and of course, you do see an increasing amount of colour photos in the papers...

I expect demand for a dedicated B&W digicam would be low indeed, all our papers including the local (two editions per week) are full colour and have been for many years now.
