Comparing a fairly large (11x14?) print from both.
In my experience they look much different from each other. Which is better is a to a large extent a matter of taste. Very experienced old hands will probably still prefer the optical print. Those with less knowledge and/or experience at evaluating photographic prints will problably prefer the digital.

More to the point, they are comparing scanned film to digital.
They are really comparing whatever scanner they are using to a digital camera.
The fair comparison is to compare a high quality optical print to digital.
Do that, and yer 6 megapixie dslr starts to look like cheap junk.
