I paid CAD$1412 (sales taxes included) for my *ist-DS & 18-55mm kit, According to Yahoo's currency converter that works out to 858 Euros, quite a big difference from what Jan saw in the store, and I assume there would be some kind of sales taxes on top of the list price of 1099 Euros.
We Canadians usually feel hard done by when comparing our prices with the prices in the US, but I feel better now seeing the 28%+ savings over European prices.
