Canon did that very thing early on.

But they built it into the body, iirc.
But I don't recall the model(s).
They don't do it any more.

You'd have to match the angular characteristics of each lens.
The further away from the focal plane the narrower the angles that need to 
converge.  Hence it's impractical.

Optically, one might be better off with one of those ugly front-mount wide 
adapters.
