Personally I just back everything up to DVD (used to
be CD) and make two copies (one stored in my office
nad one at home). As for longevity... I have the
expectation that I will have to transfer my images in
5 years to the newest disk medium (AKA blue laser
disks in a few years). This is a cheap and reliable
solution.
Now I was looking into ultra reliable long term
storage at one point and price no object the best
storage medium is Magnito/Optical drives. The 5 1/4
disks are an industry standard and they have a shelf
life of 50+ years. The problem is they can cost
upwards to 10x the price of DVD-R(W).
