Looking through all the answers here, I noticed that the obvious was not mentioned. BANDWIDTH!

Simply put 200, or so, messages a day times 600, or so, list members times 28-31 days a month takes serious bandwidth. If everyone on the list would offer to pay Doug Brewer (who maintains this list out of his own pocket) $20 a year to subscribe, he may consider opening it up to html.

Of course those 400 people who already complain that the bandwidth used by the list is too much would undoubtedly unsubscribe. Then there are the folks whose mail starts to bounce in a couple of days because there are too many messages on their mail server who would be able to have that happen every couple of hours instead with html.

Most mailing lists are limited to plain text for several very good reasons.

And BTW, if you do send html to the list it winds up in the bit bucket at the list server, just like messages with attachments, and is not sent to the list. I wonder how many of the folks who complain their messages are not showing up are sending them as html.

My mail program just prompted me to send emails to the group in plain text, because some members are unable to handle HTML.
I've been off the group for over a year, but didn't realize that this was still an issue with some members. Please advise.

Cheers,
Jeff.
