With computer disks and memory cards, the files aren't really deleted
until they're overwritten or the card/disk is formatted. And even if you
reformat, there's software that can often recover files from your memory
card. I was skeptical of it at first (at least with memory cards) but
I'll be damned if it doesn't work a lot of the time. Now I often recover
data from customers' reformatted cards at the store.
