I suspect that most of the problems come from deals where the folks on both sides are pretty ignorant about what they are doing.

For instance I saw an ad for a Six-16 Kodak Monitor where the seller said film for it was readily available on the interent. Well there does seem to be one place selling custom spooled 616 at $30.95 a roll, and processing at the same price. Now I don't know about the rest of you, but I do not consider one place at a price of $62 for 8 exposures to be "readily available". I have a hunch the buyer would not either, but I bet he never checked that out. Now the lens and shutter on some of those cameras is the same as a 127/4.5 Ektar except not coated and will cover 4x5 (the one on that particular camera was a cheaper version however), so a knowledgable bidder may pay quite a lot for such a camera, but the less knowledgable would not know the difference, but seeing that some of them had sold for $50, bid high never realizing that particular one was only worth $10 if you thought it would look nice on a shelf somewhere.

Knowledgable types ignor all those words that are suposed to create a buying frenzy such as "Vintage", "Rare", and "Bargain". And I past right on by items with "Absolutely Perfect in every way", and "Sold as is, no returns" in the description. Any mutually contradictory information is a red flag to me, and I would think too most of the folks here.

However contrary to the popular opinion here I have had no low item seller try to beat me deliberately, but have had several problems with those "platinum seller" types. Funny thing is when you have sold thousands of items 30 negatives a month add up to only maybe 1%. Someone who has sold 10 items 1 negative adds up to 10%. I do try and avoid power sellers when posible, they know more tricks than I have ever heard of.

but, despite the lack of protection, it does work! i have bough quite a few
thingies there, before and along with ebay, and it worked out just fine
(maybe i am lucky, but the mere fact that those places survive for that
long tells you something!)

You've got to be kidding, you've absolutely no recourse whatsoever in any use group market-places.
