Hmm - I wonder if either injects power onto the extra two pins?
I doubt it, but it's at least worth trying.

One way to find out would be to plug an iPod into it. The iPod charges through the FW connection (the power adaptor has a FW socket on it), or it can charge from the computer if you leave it plugged in.
