I didn't mention our indigenous claims to ownership of the seabed & foreshore... rather a hot political issue here lately (it's pretty quiet at the moment though). Tied up among all the bickering is public access to waterways which has a certain legal protection which gets a bit thorny if you have to cross private land to get there.
It's a great big mess but we just might have to fence off the entire coastline after all.
