You can do a lot with it - if the air is clear you can do nice "detailed" landscapes. The compressed perspective of a long telephoto is also a nice effect. I used to have the screw mount 500 and used it for lighthouses and buildings, as well as birds.

One thing re birds - you will need to get extension tubes or a close up filter for smaller birds. The minimum focusing distance is 10 meters (at least on the screw mount version - I don't think it changed on the K mount.) Too small for most birds (of the avian kind.)
