the statement i saw second hand from Pentax was that 2 years ago, Pentax had 70% of its 300 R&D employees working on P&S digicams. now, it is 60% on DSLRs and is likely to grow. Pentax found that it had no brand power in the digital P&S market but it thinks it still has enough in the DSLR market. for those of you who read Japanese, this was from an article in Nikkei some time last week talking about the shift in marketing by the traditional film camera manufacturers out of the digital P&S market where sales and profit margins are sinking rapidly to DSLRs where prices are relatively stable and sales are still increasing rapidly, even in Japan.

On 2/2/05, Peter J. Alling, discombobulated, unleashed:

Interestingly the upc for the *ist-d is correct. I don't know about the
*ist-Ds but the "*ist-DLX" number is in the same range as the other
two. Some thought went into it anyway.

Yeah and boy do those Pentax boys work late into the night
