Not necessarily, in fact I think due to its linearity there is more data
recorded in the highlight areas in digital captures. Shadow areas may suffer
however, as they are expanded in relation to the gamma curve to which the
linear data is mapped. I think the advantage in film still lies with its
greater exposure latitude (in the case of negative films only)
You don't think film's shoulder, and the compression of highlight gamma that goes along with it helps capture extra highlight detail?
If nothing else, it should make it easier to translate it to paper.
