Do they let you walk right up to the cage or is there a barrier? I've managed
to shoot caged animals by putting my lens hard-up against the fence (a lens
with a small enough barrel will fit through), with limited success. Unless you
can get the end of the lens through the cage you'll also lose sharpness and
contrast.
You also need to be careful to avoid getting the fence on the other side of
the cage into the photo :)

for a picture I took with my 400/5.6 pressed up against the fence.

Same here, which makes me lust after the FA*400/5.6 :(
