It's not so much "Printing Raw" that's a problem, it's printing
and color management in general. Once you've made a TIFF file,
you're into the image processing, editing workflow.

You likely need to calibrate your screen properly with a
hardware colorimeter before anything else. I use a
Gretag-Macbeth Eye One Display unit, it's very good and not too
expensive (about $250).

Then set up the Adobe Photoshop color workspace parameters. The
US Prepress Defaults are generally what I use. Once you've
opened your TIFF file with Photoshop, set it to be edited with
the same colorspace profile as your working colorspace and save
as to a .PSD file, with the profile embedded. Once you finish
editing, you then need to deal with what is required for your
printer.

I find the best print dialog settings that give me accurate
reproduction of my screen image are:

---
Adobe print settings from Print with Preview dialog
- Color Management set -
Source Space: Document: Adobe RGB (1998)
Print Space: Printer color management, Relative Colormetric

- Printer settings - from the driver dialog when you press
"Print..."
[varies per printer driver options - these for the HP 7960]
[using Epson premium glossy photo paper]

paper
paper type: HP Premium Plus Photo Glossy
Quality: best
Color: ColorSync

paper type/quality
ColorSync profile: hp7960-hp premium glossy, 8 color
installed print carts: Tri-Color, Photo, Grayscale

All other settings at default.

The options for the Epson printers are different. I have
quadtone inks in my Epson 1270 so I can't generate my Epson
print driver settings for you easily, I've not developed the
color workflow for it yet.

I use CS and would recommend the upgrade, then you can install
Camera Raw v2.4 and do all your RAW conversion to .PSD files
directly, take advantage of Photoshop CS' much better color
management workflow. I rarely have to tweak anything
specifically for the printer any more.
