I'm looking at the Sigma for better "on-paper" features than both the 
AF360FGZ and AF500FTZ.  The Sigma has bounce and swivel (unlike the 360) 
and has P-TTL (unlike the AF500) which is supposed to be better for the 
digital bodies.

Mr. Robb and others complain of very inconsistent exposures using flash 
on the *ist D.

Unlike Mr. Robb, there are some on this list who have had NO ISSUES with 
flash on the *ist D.  Some say it can only be used at ISO 400.  I use 
the AF360FGZ at ISO 200-800 and have no problems.
