Completely off topic here but in light of the recent monitor discussion, I
too have a monitor problem. For some reason, and only at night time, the
display on my monitor does this funny flickering, wobbly thing. I can
continue to work on it but it kinda makes me motion sick. lol.

It may be close to some power cables in the wall. We have this exact problem at work, which is why I just got a 19" LCD after I was moved to the other side of the room.

The reason it only does this at night... I'd speculate that the cable in question is connected to the hot water cylinder. The power companies send a signal down the wires at night to turn them on so they run at the off-peak rate, and don't overload the network during peak hours. Well, that's what they do here anyway. By the time it's switched off in the morning there is enough heat in the water to keep it hot during the day, as long as you don't use too much of it.

It could also be a night-store heater but I very much doubt you're running one of those at this time of year.

Three options:
1- move the computer
2- throw money at the problem and get an LCD screen - they're immune to this effect
3- stop using the computer at night :)

Adjusting the screen resolution and/or refresh rate might help to minimise it, but I give no guarantees there.
